The stream of changes to local bus services both by bus operators and the Labour-controlled Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) continues. As the latest changes include the 11 and 11A, I am writing to tell you more about these, which are due for implementation in April 2018. They have been recommended by TfGM, who subsidise some of the off-peak services “to improve service delivery”.
Unfortunately in recent years the effect of changes has been a slashing of services affecting both the Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme areas. The priority for the ‘Keeping in Touch’ team – John , Paul, June and myself – is to secure proper bus links between the East Didsbury tram terminus and Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme. It’s ludicrous that there’s no connection after 7-20 pm!
At the January meeting of Stockport Council, Cllr John Pantall emphasised the need for better promotion and marketing of public transport. If you are a bus user, do encourage your car-driving friends to use them occasionally – your local area is served as well as the 11/11A, by the 307, 308, 309, 310 and 312 services.
|Significant changes to the subsidised bus network|
Altrincham – Baguley – Gatley – Cheadle – Stockport
|TBC||Service 11A currently operates a commercial Monday to Saturday daytime service every 30 minutes – this is supported by a 30 minute evening and 60 minute Sunday service.
Service 11 currently operates a commercial Monday to Saturday daytime service every 15 minutes and a subsidised Sunday daytime service every 20 minutes with no late evening service.
An hourly 11A service is resource-inefficient and officers are recommending that funding be provided for an hourly service 11 instead of service 11A.
This would leave small sections of the 11A route unserved during evening/Sundays only between Gatley and Baguley, parts of which would be 800m from the nearest alternative service.
Provision of service 11 would reinstate an evening link between Wythenshawe and Altrincham, from Wythenshawe Hospital to Altrincham, Timperley, Cheadle and Stockport and would reinstate evening services through Broomwood.
Effective date: 8 April 2018
